By the Birds//
“Cabe los pájaros (By the birds)” (2020–present) is a long-term project that brings together the philosophy of nature of María Antonia González Valerio and the sound art of Leena Lee through field research in various landscapes, inviting deep listening and embodied experience.
Sound walks and textualities, performances and concerts, recordings and long meditations have emerged from this multifaceted project. Their explorations have taken them through the Veracruz cloud forest, the Tepozteco mountains, the forest in Valle de Bravo, and, most notably, various sites in Mexico City, with the Ecological Reserve of Pedregal de San Ángel serving as their primary case study.
Throughout its many iterations, the project has fostered collaborations with the Arte+Ciencia collective, Fernando González, Robertina Šebjanič, Vania Fortuna, and Jaime Lobato, and has been presented in different formats over the years.
All that lives, lives somewhere. It lives in its place.
What is a bird?
Sounds.
Songs.
Chirps.
Flight (the traces of the bird in the sky).
The bird matters. Its history matters. Its worling matters. Becoming-bird, however, is a kind of extra-limiting madness whereby the human psyche is lost on what it is not. How to think in bird? How to inhabit in bird?
